The Young Writers Society is proud to announce the formation of the Young Writers Literary Journal! We are now accepting submissions until November 15. The first issue will be published on January 15, 2008.

What we are looking for:
- Fiction between 1,000 and 25,000 words in length
- Poetry of at least 10 lines (no maximum)
- Artwork

There is no formula or specific genres we are looking for, but please do not submit anything that you would not want a 13 year old to read.

For more information including how to submit, go to:
http://journal.youngwriterssociety.com

Good luck!

Very profesional, I have to say.

One thing I noticed though: you only accept .doc files. This is a problem for people who use Microsoft Works, rather than Office, because they can't create .doc file (... I think).

My suggestion would be to allow .rtf files as well. I haven't seen a writing magazine or e-zine that doesn't allow .rtf files, so presumably they're safe. And I know they can be opened by any word proccessor, so you shouldn't have any problem with them.

Thanks for catching that Sureal. I've updated the submissions page to include .rtf as an acceptable format.

I may submit - depending on whether I get a good enough idea!

The Young Writers Literary Journal is not your self-absorbed, sophisticated, cynical, writings of the 37 year old “frustrated” artist, but it is the beginnings of true art, the budding of writers-to-be, and quite possibly the short stories of bestselling authors decades from now.

The Young Writers Literary Journal is art in its purest form.

Wow... that floored me, Nate. Well said, definitely well said.

(for those wondering, that's from the "About" page.)

Nate:

I just thought of something. You will be accepting submissions from people outside of YWS, right?

If so, you should try to figure out how to get it listed at Duotrope. That would help bring in submissions, and even a new crowd of people to wonder over to the site. I'm not sure how you would go about doing that, but I just thought of it.
