I tried this once a few years back and it's quite tricky. Basically, a mini saga is a complete story told in less than fifty words, not including the title so choose your words carefully. Prizes are as follows -

1st prize - 4 critiques
2nd prize - 3 critiques
3rd prize - 2 critiques

and 1 critique for all who enter so you might as well give it a go. This one closes on the 15th July. Good luck.

Oh yeah and here's an example, like I said, a few years old but you get the idea -

Are you courting Death?

I met him by the river. He didn’t see me there. I followed him home, along the cobbled path, under the cover of night. He turned back and looked me in the eye.
“Hello?” He called.
“Goodbye,” I whispered. I kissed him softly on the lips, the kiss of Death.

"What'll he say when he finds us here?" she whispered.

"We'll tell him the truth." He banked the fire.

She began to breathe softly after five minutes. Lifting her gently, he tied the rock to her foot.

"He'll find us, don't worry," he whispered once more.

He jumped in.

The Darkness Beckons.

The boy ran through the darkness.

It was everywhere but nowhere at the same time.

His father had warned him to be wary of The Forbidden Place he would have been too if he knew this would be the consequences.

He fell. It reared above him. Death was quick. Silence.

My Journey Home

My breathing was heavy, my eyes halfway closed. My daughter held my hand tightly, her crying a distant sound to my ears.

Then I saw it: the Light.

“I see my Father,” I whispered, happiness flooding my heart.

Earthly life ignored, my Father helped me to my feet.

“Welcome home.”

You Don't Love Me

I sobbed as I sat on the cold, hard floor of my apartment. Blood surrounded me and a gun lay at me feet. Breathing deeply, I picked up the gun and lifted it to my head with a shaky hand.

"You don't love me," I whispered. "So I will die."

I'll enter too.

A Boy's Beliefs

As I stare at the night sky I ponder a question. "Was Chris telling the truth? Are there really spirits among us?"

I think all night long and as the sun rises I find my answer. A simple, "I believe with all my heart."

(It's not much, but it's something right?)

A Mother’s Hand

Trust shone in her eager, brown eyes. Her mother’s hand, squeezing her own tiny fingers, provided unconditional security.

She was hurried past the impatient stares of headlights, guided to the haven of the sidewalk.

A carefree bounce accompanied her plodding shoes. Nothing else mattered under her mother’s loving gaze.
