The tall double doors of the room opened, and a young woman strode in. She wore a green cloak the colour of moss, and her dark hair was pulled into a high braid. There was an air of quiet confidence about her as she knelt before the king's throne, and said softly, "I apologise for being late, your majesty. I....Something came up, and my presence was needed a day longer."

The king nodded, seeming to understand something the others didn't. "You are forgiven Piper. I am glad you could make it in time."

Piper bowed, relief obvious in her golden eyes.

Orin surveyed her, not bothering to hide his curiosity. "So who are you then? I've never heard of you before."

Piper met his gaze and stared coldly back at him. "I make a point of not drawing attention to myself, unlike you. And I believe who I am is no buisness of yours."

Orin made a show of pretending to be insulted, "Well, excuse me for trying to be friendly."

The king clapped his hands twice for silence. "Ahem, I beleive we were discussing your mission."

"Now wait." kyles interrupted the king. "I would personally like to offer salutations to Piper."

He bowed overdramtically in front of her, and reach for her hand. She pulled it away quickly. Kyles raised an eyebrow, but straightened himself and grinned.

"My name is Kyles, it is a pleasure to meet you."

Piper continued to glare at him her golden eyes. Kyles stepped away.

The king cleared his throat. "I think introductions can be called for later. Right now all of you are needed, but you must listen."

He watched all that was in front of him, making sure everyone complied. "Good." he sighed. "As all of you know, In the recent times much destruction has been reigning in this land. Now all that is left is our great capital, which the enemy is fast approaching. It will not be long before the final city falls as well."

{This is not part of teh story}
Guys, I've been grounded, and won't be able to post for a while. Since I'm not piepie I can't say this defiantly but I think that our team is just the right size. I think any new charatcers should start taking on the other roles, along the way. Cool

Orin says he'll be expecting something good to happen while he's away.

Revan leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. He enjoyed watching the others fool around. His gaze settled upon Piper. As she looked around, her gaze met his. Revan looked away as fast as he could. His hood shielded his face except for his mouth. He gave a slight smile that was hardly noticable. he looked at his armored hand and remembered people asking why his right hand was the only one that had a gauntlet on. he pushed these thoughts to the back of his mind. What he is now is what's important. Not what he was. As he ajusted the straps on his gauntlet he felt a surge of pain. He quickley pulled his arm back and settled in for the show in front of him with the others.

Kyles laid back on the wall, and tilted his head lazily ot the side. Though he did not seem it, he was as attentive as everyone else. As the king continued the inssecent rambling, he was observing every person over, studying their faces and every aspect of them. He knew the most important thing to do when working with unknowns was to know as much as possible aboutht person without so much as speaking to them.

Piper, however, was a different matter. Whenever he looked at her, a cold chill ran down his spine. He couldn't put his finger on it, but it felt like fear. She couldn't be read, and that scared Kyles. As he scanned through the rest of the crowd, he realized he could not get anything out of anyone.

Kyles bit his lip. This did not bode well for him.

I won't be able to post for a while, guys. I'll be gone for about two weeks on a trip to Peru with a few kids from school. Just continue the story without me, but please don't make up things about Piper's past, or have her reveal anything secret about herself. That i'd rather cover myself. Wish me luck being the only girl and the only person in my grade!

"We need a way in. Maybe, to the edge of the land it is safe, but passing through will be hard. The safest route would have to be Jugement Path. A wood that is not fully understood. It contains a magical peresance, but the enemy can't see us there as we move. We'll be safe till we decied what to do next."

Orin streched and left his spot on the wall." Well if we need to get going we better get to it." He looked at the others, reading their expressions he could tell they all wanted to rest. "-But we could always start tomorrow." Throughout the hall was an agreement.
"I have already laid out teh finest rooms of the castle for you. The girls will sleep in the north hall, the boys in the south." He snapped his fingers and tow of his men ran forawrd, each with black velvet bags. " The girls will draw their roommates from the bag on the left, the boys the right. Form orderly lines please."
Orin walked casually up to the bag holder and reached his hand in. "We're not younglings anymore, we don't need to be told how to pick names out of a bag." He unrolled the small piece of parchment he had grabbed and read it out loud. "I'm with Kyles." He crumpled up th eparchment and tossed it over his shoulder. Kyles looked rather young, but he had potential. He dressed very similar to Orin himself, and had the same aura. Orin dressed in all dark colors and was used to being the only talented and professional killer in the room. But Orin could see it, he was covered in pockets presumably all filled with deadly weapons. He rmeinded him of a younger verison of him. Anyways, they both dressed alike, had the same job, same hairstyle, same hieght, same eyes, heck Kyles was a younger version of Orin. "What room do we have King O' Stupidity?" A small smile creeped over Reven's face. "ah finally someone who has a good sense of humor." Orin joked.
"Kyles, you and your, rude roommate will be boarding in the second room down the hall. Enjoy your stay and get to bed early. You will need all you energy for tomorrow." Said the king.

It was Revan's turn to pick a name. He strode up to the bag and reached in. He grabbed a strip of parchment. It read Ramza. He strode back to the wall and leaned against it as if nothing happened. He showed no emotion whatsoever. He watched as the others picked their names. He saw the girls pass nervous glances at each other. He saw Kyles make more jokes at the king. When he had enough he walked up to the king.
"Where is this room?" he asked. The entire room went silent. No one had heard Revan speak the entire time this had been happening. Everyone looked rather astonished.
"Right next to Kyles and Orin's." the king replied. Without any further words, Revan walked to a door in the side of the hall. He entered it and disappered.

Slowly people cleared from the throne room into their separate corridors, all except kyles. The king laid back in his chair, rubbing his head in frustration.
"Why do our best warriors always have to hate me...?"

"Maybe it's because you are so easy to hate." The king looked up at Kyles, and looked back down, trying ot imagine he was not there.

"Come now, it will all be better." Kyles said, a rigged grin on his face. "Everything will be fine, just like you said about my father."

the king did not react. "What happened was not my fault."

Kyles continued to step towards the king. A prominent glare appeared in his eyes. "Yeah sure, just like the kingdom going into despair. That isn't your fault. It just happened."

The king looked up to see kyles just inches from his face. "Are you... are you going to kill me?"

Kyles held his stare for a few moments, and laughed. " Come on? Kill you? Not worth the time." He backed away, and began walking down the hall. "permission to explore the castle before retiring?"

The king had returned to the head in hands position. "Yes, yes. Do whatever you please. Just leave me be."

Kyles let out another chuckle, and started down the hall. he hesitated, as if forgetting something. "Oh, and one thing." the king looked up at him, weary-eyed. "If I wanted you dead, it would have happened a long time ago."

* * *

Night had taken over the castle, enveloping all in darkness. A cooling wind breathed through the land, forcing all inside early. The sky was starless, but the two moons let light enough out to illuminate a single figure outside, standing on one of the many castle balcony. Kyles stood alone, enjoying the chilled air of the night.

He sensed another figure, somewhat foreign, yet familiar in a way.

"Simin..." he breathed.

A silent figure stepped out of the darkness. Her long brown hair glowed in the moonlight despite the impeding dark. Her piercing brown eyes stayed on the back of Kyles' head, watching him curiously. Kyles turned slightly, and smiled.

"Are you going to sit there or join me?" he said, beckoning her over. She gingerly took a few steps forward, stopping beside Kyles. they stood in silence for a moment. Kyles sighed.

"So tell me, why exactly are you out her in this bitter cold? I thought my liking of it was just and aquired taste."

She let out a light giggle. "Well, i guess we have the same tastes."

Kyles shook his head in disbelief. "It would be a lot easier to talk to you if it was your actual self."

Simin's doppledanger flickered, and grinned. "Well, your stuck with me. My other self don't want to come outside, because, like you said, liking the cold is an aquired taste."

Kyles rolled his eyes. "Yeah sure. So why are you out here then if your real self didn't come out?"

The doppledanger flickered again. "Well, i wanted to judge you... friend... or maybe foe."

she dissapeared. Kyles continued to shake his head, amazed by the strangeness and awkwardness of all the other warrior's actions. After observing every one of them, he came to one conclusion; this job was going ot be the longest one of his life.

Orin sat on the balcony observing the doppleganger and his odd roommates actions. He could only stay invisible for a minute of two more. He could already start to feel his body wearing out. He slid under the the blacony, lowering him down onto his room's window's self. Why was the boy so emotional. He was like Revan but younger. Orin still wondered why Revan was such a freak. Something about him made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Almost nothing scared him, he must be something big. But this kid, nothing was strange about him, what did he have against the world?

Kyles's memories haunted him that night. He tossed nad utnred in irregular pattens, with beads of sweat soaking his bed. the flames... those utter flames of despair... burning his life away. Such darkness... only him and his father. Such torturous times that held a grip on his mind forever.

He sat up slowly, waking from his time in the past. He made not a sound as he dissapeared out of the room, but the pai glowed in his eyes. The sun was just peeking over the eastern mountains, splashing new light upon the land. Kyles walked, not knowing his destination but still going. THe world hated him, and he knew it. His only choice was to mkae the world favor him once again, by taking the others that are hated. He felt the damascus daggers at his side. That is why he bcame a master in shadowjistu. To hope the world will favor him once again.

Kyles had just found himself in a small courtyard that was nearly overrun by vines and strange, brilliantly coloured flowers sparkling with dew. He took a deep breath, savoring the calm silence, and moved toward a wooden bench settled near a broken bowl shaped basin, which he supposed had once been a fountain. His peaceful solitude did not last though, for no sooner had he sat down than he heard a voice from behind him. Kyles wheeled around, nearly knocking over the bench, and was surprised to see Piper standing under a crumbling stone archway.

"Forgive me if I frightened you," her deep, rich voice echoed off the old walls. "The King has summoned us."

Kyles nodded, his heart still pounding. "You didn't, I just . . .didn't hear you coming."

Their eyes met for a moment, Piper's golden eyes gazing intensely into his. She looked away, almost shamefully, and left the courtyard quickly in the direction of the throne room. Kyles stood there for a moment, feeling as if he had just come out of a daze. She seems to be hiding something. He thought before following her.
