THE CONTEST

This is my first contest, so hopefully it will go well. Here's what you need to do: reinvent/remake any myth/fairy tale of your choice. This can be in song, poem, prose, or fiction form. It just has to be based off of some myth or fairy tale. The biggest rule, is that at the beginning of your entry post (even if you PM it to me) you need to link me to a site with the original myth/fairy tale so I can read it before I read yours. I'll be judging not on writing skill, though that does help, but on originality and creativity. That doesn't mean make it as CRAZY AND SHOCKING as you can think of, but be creative. It doesn't even have to be a large change (Take a look at luna_the_shiekah's stories for a general example of something you could do.) it just has to be creative, and reinvented. Stick too close to the original, and it'll be boring, but get too far away from it, and it might be hard to see the connection.

If you have any questions/comments concerning the contest prompt (is it a prompt?) feel free to PM me and I'll try to clear it up Very Happy

PRIZE

The winner gets 750 points from me, which isn't the big deal. I will also give as in depth as possible critiques on all the works the winner posts for a whole month.

Everyone who enters a piece will get a critique on they're own work (in private) and I'm hoping to make this a monthly thing if I get enough entries. So if you don't win this time, you can always try the next month.

Again, I'll be judging mostly on creativity. Keep that in mind!

DATES

That contest starts today (February 20th) and will run for what is roughly a month and will end on March 20th, midnight, Central time. Not sure what that is for all other countries, but if it says on my timezone that it was submitted after midnight, sorry! Though I might make exceptions, if there is a good enough reason given Very Happy

----
So if anyone is interested, why not post here so I have a rough idea of who all would like to enter. You can Post your stories here (preferably) or PM/E-mail them to me with the subject line reading "Tale Contest". Just make sure you have a link to somewhere where I can read the original, or else I won't count your entry! I really hope I get a lot of entries, I would love to do this every month.

Now this looks like delightful fun, but what is your time zone, Clau? Eastern Standard here.

I'm looking forward to entering this one...

Very cool, Claudette!

Question: Are there any word limits or minimum requirements?

You have a point there! No word limits, because I'm cool like that, but please be nice to me, people! I am going to have to read these, though I may have a surprise judge help me out.

The only "minimum requirement" is that it be based off of some myth or fairy tale. Otherwise, do what ever the heck you want.

The contest is over in a little over a week, and I've only received one entry. So if you plan on entering I'd say figure out what you are going to write, write it, and send it Very Happy

If we only get one entry I suppose they will win by default...and I won't be doing this contest monthly! Too bad...

I'm entering, I'm entering, I've just been busy. I'm doing an adaption of "Snow White, Rose Red", but I have allusions to other myths and fairytales in there, is that okay?
