|
|
Welcome to the second Fand’s Fantastic Challenge. As mentioned in the last challenge, the name is a bit misleading; the entry doesn’t need to be fantasy. In fact, it can be any genre you like, as long as it's prose. The winner’s reward, you ask? As points are put back to 500 every few weeks, the 750 points I’ll give the winner are only there to sweeten the deal. The main prize is a month’s worth of in-depth critiques on whatever you write!
In keeping with the last challenge, your material for this one is also a song. Use whatever you like from it--an image, a line, a theme, even the narrator--and as long as I can identify the link between the song and story, it's fair game. Please note, however, that I'm not looking for a songfic, so I'd prefer if you didn't separate blocks of text with whole stanzas in songfic form. If you'd like to work phrases from the song into the text itself, however... well, that would certainly be taken into account during the judging!
And, as before, you're welcome to (a) post your entry in this thread, (b) post it in its proper literary forum and PM me a link, or (c) PM it directly to me.
Your song this time around? The Postal Service's "Recycled Air."
I take a breath, pull the air until there's nothing left
I'm feeling green like teenage lovers between the sheets
Knuckles clench to white as the landing gears retract for flight
My head's a balloon inflating with the altitude
I watch the patchwork farms slow-fade into the ocean's arms
From here, they can't see me stare; the stale taste of recycled air
I watch the patchwork farms slow-fade into the ocean's arms
Calm down, release your cares... the stale taste of recycled air.
This contest officially ends at 12:00am EST, 14 February, 2007.
That's right... you have a whole month this time. Get writing! |

...And this time the time and date are clear for the finish. ^_^
I'll try to write and finish before 12:00 midnight, your time, Fand. I'll not procrastinate 'til dusk on the last day either.

I'll make an exception for you, PImp. Well, and everyone else. If anyone else is still entering!

Though my entrance is rather useless, since technically I can't win, I figured I'd write a poem to cheer you up so you have some entry.... Personally, this is a really, really bad poem. But hey! Now you at least have one entry. (One entry that doesn't even count!)
Calm down, release your cares...
As I ignore your desperate prayers.
Let me wrap myself around you,
Let me pierce your body, right through!
Don’t let yourself feel too abused,
I am sorry I left you bruised.
Yeah....it's not that good. It's crap. Terrible. Oh well! Not to mention it carries my usual perversion...sorry Fandy Dandy! |
