Once you finish the 50K, you might want to continue the story on, till it ends. In that case, don't focus on the word count. If you do this, most likely, you'll get overwhelmed with how many words you have, and you won't go anywhere. Instead of focusing on the word count, focus on the scenes that are coming up. In fact, forget the word count. In the end, after the intial 50K words, the only thing that counts is the story.
Good luck! |

Yeah...I definitely need to continue on with this, because I'm nowhere near finished, but it's a good point about the scenes; once you hit 50k, your goal really goes out the window, and because the goal/deadline is what drives NaNo, that's not good. But I like this idea, Snoink. |

| That was definitely my problem: the sudden loss of a goal, when my whole writing had been about word count and then instantly it turned around. I lost momentum and my old routine was changed, so I just couldn't write the same. Now I've had a week off from writing it, I feel inspired to tackle it again sometime in December, and try and get some good writing out. Probably. If this short story idea doesn't kill me in the meantime. |

Well... I'm not continuing my NaNo, or at least not unless I give it a good edit sometime next year. It's just a bit odd at the moment.
Still, I've written over 3k of my next story - pirate themed! - and I'm definitely thinking about this one more in terms of scenes, and what happens next rather than word count. However, NaNo has made me able to write chapters of a decent length too. T'is fun. |

| I hate looking at the word count. I'll get on with mine once I've completed my current novel. |
