Magical realism can be lovely in small doses. I just had a bad experience with it in a class, where it was made to seem the only thing existing in the text. I never know enough about movements to really get into them. I usually just read whatever I pick up first. And even when I do find things I like from a similar movement/time period, my attention span becomes suddenly all too short.
